Romantic Comedies just aren’t what they used to be. So many of the plot lines in the rom-coms today feel tired and overused. Nerdy girl/guy gets a makeover and falls in love with super-cool popular kid. Woman who was scorned and vows to stay away from men escapes to a far-off land and meets a foreign stranger who makes her believe in love again. Two people square-off over an important issue and while they are at odds, fall for each other proving that opposites attract. Did I miss any? Don’t get me wrong, though, I love a romantic comedy movie just as much at the next gal. I just happen to think that some of the best ones were made in the 1980s.

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner (this is your warning, people), I couldn’t resist putting together the Ultimate Watch Guide for 80s Romantic Comedy Movies. These movies are the perfect way to get in the romantic mood before the holiday or to enjoy with your special valentine during a night in. Take a look below to read more about my top five picks for 80s Romantic Comedy Movies. Read more

7 New Year’s Resolutions To Make You Feel Like a Kid Again

I have not made a New Year’s Resolution in probably 12 years. Mostly because as we age, the resolutions get less exciting and optimistic and more about trying to lose weight and save money. #depressing When I was younger, I actually looked forward to making a commitment for the new year that would somehow enhance my life. So, instead of making a resolution to work out, eat better, get a new job, save money, be more organized or some other boring, grown-up resolution, I suggest some more fun-loving and good-for-the-soul resolutions. Resolutions that will make you feel young again. Here’s hoping these inspire you to make some awesome resolutions of your own in 2018 that bring back memories of your childhood. Read more

Holiday Wish Lists

This past weekend, I celebrated Thanksgiving, Black Friday and the official start of the holiday season with my family. We laughed, cooked, ate way too much food and went Black Friday shopping. Yes, we are those crazy people among the crowds of shoppers vying for a killer deal at 5 a.m. Part of the preparation for Black Friday shopping includes going through the newspaper, scouring the ads and planning which stores and which deals are a top priority. I am happy to report that my husband and I survived Black Friday (it was actually a relatively pleasant experience) and walked away with a Smart T.V., wireless printer, rice cooker and wet/dry vacuum cleaner all at amazing deals. We had a great weekend!

While planning for our shopping escapade, thumbing through the ads brought back memories from my childhood of putting together my holiday wish list. Was there anything that a kid put more thought into than making a list of toys to request for the holiday season? Certainly not school work. Certainly not chores. The process of creating a holiday wish list was quite involved. I still remember all the steps I took to ensure there was no question about what I wanted to see under the tree on Christmas morning. 7 Affordable Throwback Stocking Stuffers

Two stockings with post titleYou may find affiliate links in this post. For more information, please read our disclosure statement.

There are two kinds of people during the holidays; those that love Christmas shopping and those that hate Christmas shopping. I am one of the former – it is one of my favorite things about the holidays! Throughout the year, I pay close attention to things my friends and family seem fond of and grab it then and there, holding it for Christmas so I can see their delight when they open the gift. I find a lot of joy in giving others thoughtful and creative presents. Santa Claus basically has my dream job. Out of all the holiday shopping I do, though, nothing gets me more excited than picking out the perfect stocking gifts. Most people don’t ask for specific stocking gifts, which gives me great creative freedom. That, and the challenge of sticking to a relatively low price point makes stocking shopping a favorite holiday pastime of mine. I must admit, I am pretty good at it, too.

One thing I love adding to my loved ones’ stockings is toys, games and items from the past that remind them of their youth. Read more

The Ultimate Watch Guide: 90s Christmas Movies

I know ya’ll didn’t think I would create an 80s Christmas Movies Ultimate Watch Guide without making one for the 90s, too, right? #duh Since you’re already snuggled up on the couch with hot chocolate, egg nog or hot apple cider and a nice big bowl of buttered popcorn, you might as well let the Christmas movie marathon continue with more holiday favorites from the 90s! Your couch would really miss you if you didn’t. 90s Christmas movies have a completely different feel from the collection of satirical and sometimes racy cinema classics from the 80s. Don’t get me wrong, the 90s holiday movies on this Ultimate Watch Guide are still HILARIOUS, just with a far more family-friendly, warm-and-fuzzy type of humor. Read more

The Ultimate Watch Guide: 80s Christmas Movies

One of my favorite holiday traditions is snuggling up to a nice warm fire with a blanket and hot cocoa to watch a beloved Christmas movie. Something about the glow of the Christmas Tree lit up and the crackling fire in the background make the movie watching experience more magical. Everyone can agree that some of their best memories come from watching the same beloved classic holiday movies year after year. While I do have some favorites from an assortment of decades, the Christmas movies from the 80s have a special place in my heart. Read more
